Lake Trichonida, in the heart of Aetolia and Akarnania is the biggest, most beautiful and unknown freshwater lake in Greece. With an area almost 100 miles surrounded by two beautiful mountain ranges (Arakynthos and Panetolikon) of incomparable beauty, while the coast is in many ways reminiscent of sea shores. On the shores of the lake there are forests of plane trees, poplars, willows, osiers, oleanders and citruses, while in the surrounding area you will marvel at lilies, cyclamen, orchids and gladiolus.

Regionally of the lake there is a wide paved road that completes the tour of the lake after 70 roughly kilometers. In some places it passes next to the banks where you will find taverns and several monasteries to visit, while the evening you can admire the lantern boats that glow in the calm water of the lake.

In the waters of Lake Trichonis and in the dense reeds that grow along the banks live more than 140 bird species, 30 of which are endangered. The lake and its surrounding area is rich in amphibians and reptiles and is the natural habitat of otters, which are becoming increasingly rare in Greece.  Lake Trichonida belongs to the European Natoura 2000 network for the protection of nature.

It is a hot lake, the water temperature varies depending on the season from 4° - 25° degrees of Celsius, where you can swim, and many residents engage in fishing activities..
